Update Microsoft Office and Be Always Current
Can you consider yourself or your Microsoft Office a certified “hermit”? Can you hardly recall the last time you have ever updated your programs? Several PC users may not know it, but there’s actually such a thing called Microsoft Office Update. It’s provided freely to all of their customers. The main purpose of it is to continuously check and install patches or add-ons that will add more usability and flexibility factors to your MS programs, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Frontpage, and Access.
There are two ways on how you can obtain the update. Normally, your PC with MS applications will simply provide you with information about any new update, and you can have the option to either do it right away or later. If you’re diligent enough, you can also browse MS Office website and check if there are already available updates for you. However, if you’re using MS Office 2007, you still need to open up your Internet Explorer 5 before you can go to the Check for Update page. This is because automatic update is not available in the newest version of MS programs. Moreover, those who are using fake MS applications, where installers are actually ripped from original ones, they cannot take full advantage of this privilege. For better support and installation, make sure that you’re using original Office applications version.
Problems with Microsoft Office Updates
It’s not unusual that when you’re in the process of updating your MS applications, you will encounter a number of situations. First, there’s the possibility of updates gone haywire especially if you have just upgraded your MS version. For example, if you install an MS Office 2000 in your PC, you will likely install MS Frontpage 2000 too. When you upgrade your system to 2003, however, Frontpage will remain in your PC since it’s not part of the 2003 upgrade. The remaining components in your computer may cause some problems once you click on the Updates button in Microsoft’s Update page. Instead of installing updates for the newer version, you will get the old one.
To solve it, you need to make sure that you have deleted all of the Office components that you no longer need. Your first step is to close all Office applications currently in use. Click on Start Menu and then Control Panel. Choose the Add or Remove programs. You will be provided of applications or programs that are currently installed in your PC. Look for the older Microsoft Office components and press on Delete. It will then usher to an Uninstall wizard. Just read the instructions, and within minutes, you will already have a well-functioning MS Office in your computer.
Disabling Firewall
There are times when you can’t receive any Microsoft Office Update. If this happens to you, then perhaps it’s high time that you take a look at your Firewall. It could be that it’s incompatible to the Updates configuration. You may also have to adjust the Internet privacy or settings of your PC. They can interfere with automatic upgrades.
Other Resolutions
You can also help prevent problems in installation from surfacing by deleting the contents in your Internet explorer. These include clearing your cache, removing all of your cookies, and resetting your History. This is to give more space for the Update control to be installed. Another reason why you’ll be receiving error messages when your system is undergoing updates is a corrupted ActiveX control. The best solution is to remove and reinstall it.
Call Customer Support
When you believe that you’ve already exhaust all of the possible remedies to your issues with Microsoft Office Update, your last recourse will be to contact their customer support department. Their representatives are highly trained to deal with these problems, so you basically don’t have to worry too much on whether they can help you or not. Just make sure you have made your problem very clear, and expect solutions in no time.
